Tank Calibration & Shipboard Measurement

Tank Calibration & Shipboard Measurement

Tank Calibration & Shipboard Measurement refers to the process of calibrating the capacity, measuring the liquid level, and detecting the temperature and density of cargo holds on ships transporting petroleum and petrochemical products (such as crude oil, refined oil products, LPG, and chemicals). This is done to determine the actual quantity of cargo before and after loading and unloading, serving as the basis for trade settlement, customs declaration, and transportation loss assessment.

operating procedure

1. Preparation before loading and unloading: Check the cleanliness of the hold (such as residues from the previous voyage). Verify the calibration status of measuring equipment (such as draft survey and thermometer).

2. Loading and unloading monitoring: Before Loading: Measure the residual oil (ROB) and residues in the tank. After Discharge: Confirm the discharge rate.

3. Data correction and reporting: Correct the influence of temperature and pressure according to API/ASTM standards, and issue a metrology certificate.
